Info: Multi-factor Authentication (MFA)

Written by Josh Lamb

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is a security measure that requires users to complete two or more verification steps in order to log in to their account.

Liine requires multi-factor authentication (MFA) for all users that are assigned to the 'Admin' user role. In addition, MFA can be enabled for all users in your dashboard. If you would like to enable MFA for all users in your dashboard, please reach out to your CSM or support@liine.com.

Liine MFA works with Authenticator Apps that implement the time-based one-time password (TOTP) algorithm.

Compatible Authenticator Apps

Setting Up MFA

If MFA is enabled for your Liine user account, you will be prompted to complete the set up process after logging in.

After clicking 'NEXT' in the pop-up shown above, you will be taken to a screen that displays instructions/steps for setting up MFA.

To link your authenticator app to Liine, you can complete either of the following:

  • Click the 'Show QR Code' box to display a QR code that can be scanned with your authenticator app.

  • Click the 'secret key' link to generate a secret key that can be input into your authenticator app .

Once your authenticator app has been linked to your Liine user account, enter the code that is displayed in your app for step 3 (MFA Code) of the 'Set up Mutli-Factor Authentication' pop up.

Logging in with MFA

After connecting your Liine user account with an authenticator app for MFA, you will be prompted to input a verification code each time you login. Open you authenticator app to locate this, and input it into the 'Token' field of the 'Two-Factor Authentication' screen that displays after logging in with your Liine username and password.

Resetting MFA

If you are having trouble getting logged in with MFA (e.g. you lost the device that your authenticator app was installed on), don't worry! MFA can be reset by your Liine Admin. If you are the Admin for your Liine Dashboard and need MFA reset for your user, or are unsure of who the Admin is for your Dashboard, reach out to your CSM or Support (support@liine.com for assistance.

If you are the Admin of your account and need to reset MFA for a user, you can do so by completing the following steps:

  1. Access the 'User Management' view

  2. Click 'Edit' in the 'Actions' column for the user that MFA needs to be reset for

  3. Scroll to the bottom of the User Details side-panel and click the 'Reset MFA' button in the 'Mutli-Factor Authentication' section.

  4. Click the 'Yes, reset it' button in the confirmation (Reset MFA?) pop-up that displays.
