The FCC is cracking down big time on spam text messages (yay!) so that legitimate messages - like the ones you send from Liine - are more likely to be delivered, read, and trusted.
The way they are doing this is requiring every phone number that sends text messages to be registered to a specific company and approved "campaign" (ie what the texts are used for). As of Feb 1st 2025, any phone numbers that are not registered to an approved campaign will have their outbound traffic blocked.
The good news:
Liine handles the administrative burden of navigating these regulations AND getting you registered
The bad news:
The turnaround time to get campaigns approved can vary.
Approval requirements have been a moving target, with new requirements being added without notification to those who are registering.
What do we need from you?
With an increase in registration rejections we need YOU to ensure your website complies with what the FCC is requiring.
Privacy Policy Requirements
Your website must feature a detailed Privacy Policy that is easily accessible, either directly on the site or through a downloadable document such as a PDF. Ensure your policy addresses the following essential topics:
- Messaging Terms & Conditions
This details the type of messages customers will receive and how they can manage their preferences.
Here is an example that you can use on your website, but you must add your company name and email where indicated before pasting into your Privacy Policy
Messaging Terms & Conditions
You agree to receive informational messages (appointment reminders, account notifications, etc.) from {YOUR COMPANY NAME}. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. For help, reply HELP or email us at {YOUR EMAIL}. You can opt out at any time by replying STOP.
- Consent and Opt-out Instructions
Consent ensures the message sender (you) don't improperly claim to have the consumer’s consent to share end-user data with third parties for marketing purposes. While it's permissible for a business to share end-user data essential for business operations, the practice of sharing data to sell consumer information (leads) to third parties is a prohibited.
Opt-out Instructions provide a clear method for users to discontinue messages, ensuring compliance with opt-out requirements.
Here is an example section:
Consent & Opt-out Instructions
Mobile information will not be shared or sold to third parties/affiliates for marketing/promotional purposes. All the above categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
If you wish to be removed from receiving future communications, you can opt out by texting STOP.
Important Note: We recommend that each business personalize these sections to reflect their specific operational practices. While the templates provided are a solid starting point, it is your responsibility to ensure that your Privacy Policy adheres to TCPA laws and individual carrier compliance requirements. For businesses new to this area, consider consulting online resources or legal professionals to tailor your Privacy Policy to the unique needs of your company.
